N5
ね
Isn't it?, Right? (Sentence ending particle)
今日は寒いですね。
It's cold today, isn't it?
Explanation
「ね」 at the end of a sentence means 'don't you think?', looking for the listener's agreement or sympathy: 「いい天気ですね」 (Nice weather, isn't it). With a slight rise it is a check: 「明日ですね」 (It's tomorrow, right?); drawn out, it is thinking aloud: 「そうですね…」 (Well, let me see …). It softens what you say and is a very common polite touch in Japanese.
Mixed up with
「よね」 is the two put together: you have an opinion but are not completely sure and want the listener to confirm. 「田中さんも行きますよね」 (Mr Tanaka is going too, right?)
