どころか

Far from, Anything but

Far from being sweet, this curry was spicy.

Explanation

「どころか」 has 2 uses

1Let alone

Not only not the higher level, not even the lowest: 「貯金どころか、借金がある」 (far from savings, I have debts).

Let alone Chuhai, she doesn't even drink beer.

Far from speaking English, I feel that I can't even properly speak in Japanese.

2Quite the opposite

Not that, but the very opposite: 「病気が良くなるどころか、悪くなった」 (instead of getting better, it got worse).

Far from being sweet, that cake was sour.

Far from being sweet, this curry was spicy.

Mixed up with

「〜ばかりでなく」 adds in the same direction (not only A, but also B); 「〜どころか」 denies or reverses (not A, not even B; or not A, but the opposite).

Casual 「〜どころじゃない」: 'no time for that': 「旅行どころじゃない」 (I'm too busy to even think of a trip).
