にわたって

Across, Throughout, Extends, Over (a period of time or range)

この車くるまの細部さいぶに渡わたるこだわりはさすがですね。

The obsession over this car's details is impressive.

Explanation

「にわたって」 means 'over, throughout, spanning', stressing a wide span of time, space or number of times. It follows a word that expresses a big span: 「三日間にわたる激しい議論の末、合意に達した」 (After heated discussion lasting three days, they reached an agreement), 「百キロにわたって桜並木が続いている」 (A row of cherry trees runs for a hundred kilometres). Before a noun use 「にわたる」. Mostly written.

Mixed up with

「にわたって」: stresses how long or how wide.

「を通じて」: 'throughout the whole period without a break', or 'through' a person or means: 「友人を通じて」 (through a friend).
