N2
ないではいられない
Cannot help doing something, Cannot resist doing something
セール品を見ると、買わないではいられなくなる。
When I see something on sale, I can't help but buy it.
Explanation
「ないではいられない」 means 'can't help doing', and follows the ない form; 「する」 becomes 「せずにはいられない」. Under a strong stimulus or strong feeling, you cannot hold yourself back and must do it: 「おかしすぎて、笑わずにはいられない」 (It's so funny I can't help laughing). It is normally about the speaker; for other people, end with something like 「ようだ」「らしい」「のだ」.
Mixed up with
「ないではいられない/ずにはいられない」: you can't stop yourself from doing the action.
「てたまらない」: a physical sensation or feeling too strong to bear: 「頭が痛くてたまらない」 (My head hurts terribly).
「てならない」: worry, anxiety or longing wells up by itself: 「合格できるか心配でならない」 (I can't stop worrying whether I'll pass).
「てやまない」: a heartfelt wish or hope: 「君の成功を願ってやまない」 (I sincerely wish you success).
