からには

As long as, Since, Given

沖縄おきなわに来きたからには、一番いちばん綺麗きれいなビーチへ行いきたい。

Since I am in Okinawa, I want to go to the prettiest beach.

Explanation

Follows the plain form of a verb, or 「noun / adjective + である」, and means 'now that ..., then ...'. The first part is a fact already settled; the second part states the speaker's resolve, duty, advice or a natural demand: 「やるからには全力でやる」 (If I'm doing it, I'll give it everything). The ending needs an expression of will or duty, such as 「~べきだ、~つもりだ、~なければならない、~てみせる」, not a flat statement.

Mixed up with

「からには」: the strongest personal resolve.

「以上(は)」: based on common sense and one's role, 'being in this position, naturally ...'. 「学生である以上、勉強すべきだ」 (As a student, you should study).

「上は」: the most formal and determined, written style. 「こうなった上は、戦うしかない」 (Things being as they are, all we can do is fight).
