彼女かのじょらはここ２年間ねんかん毎日まいにち文句もんくを言いわずにトレーニングしてきたから、大会たいかいで勝かつべくして勝かったんだ。

These girls have trained every day for the last two years without complaint, so as expected they won the competition.

Explanation

「べくして」 means 'this result was no accident; the causes made it bound to happen'. The same verb appears twice: dictionary form＋べくして＋the same verb in た form.

Examples: 「起こるべくして起こった事故」 (an accident that was bound to happen), 「勝つべくして勝った」 (They won, as they were bound to).

It can criticize (loose management, so the accident is no surprise) or praise (years of hard training, so the title is deserved).

Mixed up with

The key point in exams: both verbs are the same. After the dictionary form 「〜べくして」, the second part is almost always the same verb in 「〜た」.

It rules out luck and chance, and stresses that the result follows naturally from the causes.
