N5
ます
Polite Verb Endings
弟は、これも食べます。
My little brother eats this too.
Explanation
「ます」 goes after the ます-stem of a verb and makes the sentence polite, for people you don't know well, elders and bosses. It can mean a habit (「毎朝走ります」 I run every morning) or the future (「明日行きます」 I'll go tomorrow). Forms: negative 「〜ません」, past 「〜ました」, past negative 「〜ませんでした」.
Mixed up with
Japanese has no separate future tense. Whether 「ます」 means a habit or the future depends on the time word in the sentence, such as 「毎日」 or 「明日」.
