Explanation
The third meaning of 「〜ている」: a habit or repeated action, not something done once by chance but a regular routine, job or long-term situation: 「毎朝ジョギングをしている」 (I jog every morning), 「大学で英語を教えている」 (I teach English at a university). It often goes with 「毎日」, 「毎週」 or 「いつも」.
Mixed up with
The three meanings of 「ている」 compared:
In progress: 「今、本を読んでいる」 (I'm reading a book now).
A state after a change: 「結婚している」 (is married), 「窓が開いている」 (the window is open).
A habit or repetition (this entry): 「高校で教えている」 (teach at a high school). When saying your job, Japanese usually uses 「〜ています」: 「銀行で働いています」.
In speech the 「い」 often drops: 「寝てる」.
