N5
たことがある
Have done before
富士山へ行ったことがある?
Have you ever been to Mt. Fuji before?
Explanation
「〜たことがある」 says you have had a certain experience: 「日本へ行ったことがあります」 (I have been to Japan). The negative is 「〜たことがありません / たことがない」, meaning never. Form: た-form of the verb + ことがある.
Mixed up with
It is about experiences in your life, so it cannot be used for small everyday things that happened just now or yesterday: say 「昨日ラーメンを食べました」, never 「昨日ラーメンを食べたことがあります」. Adding a recent time word makes it wrong.
What comes before is always the た-form. Dictionary form + ことがある is a different pattern, meaning 'sometimes …'.
