てほしい

I want you to

もう一回いっかい説明せつめいしてほしいです。

I want you to explain it one more time.

Explanation

「てほしい」 means 'I want you (someone) to …'. The person who does it takes 「に」.

「先生に教えてほしい」 (I want the teacher to teach me).

The negative is 「ないでほしい」 (I want you not to) or 「てほしくない」.

Mixed up with

The doer takes 「に」, never 「を」: not 「×あなたを教えてほしい」 but 「あなたに教えてほしい」.

「てほしい」 is for equals, juniors and friends. To an elder, boss or client use 「ていただきたいです」 or 「ていただけませんか」.

「たい」 is what you want to do: 「私は行きたい」. 「てほしい」 is what you want another person to do: 「あなたに行ってほしい」.
