N4
お~になる
To do (Honorific)
先生はいつ日本にお戻りになりますか。
When will the professor be back in Japan?
Explanation
「お〜になる」 is the regular way to honour someone else's action: 「お+verb stem+になる」. 「先生は何時にお帰りになりますか」 (What time will you go home, teacher?), 「もうそのニュースをお聞きになりましたか」 (Have you already heard the news?). For verbs made of a Chinese-origin word plus する use 「ご〜になる」: 「ご案内になる」.
Mixed up with
If a special honorific verb exists, use that: 食べる/飲む→召し上がる; 行く/来る/いる→いらっしゃる; 言う→おっしゃる; する→なさる; 見る→ご覧になる.
Verbs whose stem is a single kana (見る, 寝る, 出る) cannot use 「お〜になる」.
Use it only for the other person's actions, never for yourself or your own side.
