において・における

In, On, At, Regarding, In terms of

これはこの工事こうじにおける難むずかしい作業さぎょうになります。

This will be a difficult task in this construction project.

Explanation

「において」 works like 「で」 or 「に」 but is very formal, used in news, papers, speeches and contracts. After a noun it marks the place or era where something happens, or the range or field: 「東京において開催される」 (is held in Tokyo) 「技術において劣る」 (inferior in technology). Before a noun, use 「における」: 「日本における人口」.

Mixed up with

In daily talk use 「で」 (「駅で会う」). 「において」 for small everyday things sounds stiff: you cannot say 「家においてご飯を食べる」.

「において」 belongs to formal settings: international meetings, academia, law, historical eras.

「における」 must be followed by a noun.
