Explanation

「Nと同じくらい」 means 'about the same as N'. When comparing two things in quality, amount, size or ability, it says the subject and the thing compared with are almost equal: 「彼は私と同じくらいの身長だ」 (He is about as tall as I am); 「今年の冬は去年と同じくらい寒い」 (This winter is about as cold as last year). Before a noun: 「と同じくらいの＋noun」.

Mixed up with

「AはBと同じくらい…」 is positive: A is about equal to B. 「AはBほど…ない」 is negative: A does not match B.

The thing compared with takes 「と」, not 「に」 or 「が」: 「×彼に同じくらい」.
