N3
できれば・できたら
If possible
出来たら薬局に行って頭痛薬を買って来てくれる?
If possible, can you go to the pharmacy and buy me some headache medication?
Explanation
「できれば」 and 「できたら」 mean 'if possible'. When you ask a favour or state a wish or suggestion, you add it as a cushion: do it if convenient, no pressure if not: 「できれば、明日までにお願いします」 (If possible, please do it by tomorrow). It makes the request feel less forceful.
Mixed up with
「できたら」 is casual and spoken; 「できれば」 is the standard polite one, common at work and in business; 「可能であれば」 and 「よろしければ」 are more formal.
Do not pair it with a command: you cannot say 「できればやれ!」. Use a polite request form.
