Explanation

「すでに」 (既に) means 'already', in a written or formal style. By the time of speaking (or a past point), the thing is long done and settled: 「彼はすでに出発した」 (He has already left). It is often used to say it is too late to fix things: 「すでに手遅れだ」.

Mixed up with

「もう」 is the everyday spoken 'already' (もう食べた？); 「すでに」 belongs to writing, news and papers, and rarely replaces 「もう」 in casual talk.

Common phrases: 「すでに手遅れだ」 (already too late), 「すでに〜済みだ」 (long since done).
