Explanation

「万が一」 means 'in the unlikely event that'. The chance is one in ten thousand, but the result would be serious, so you prepare. It is usually followed by 「〜たら」 or 「〜場合は」: 「万が一事故が起きたら、すぐに警察に連絡してください」 (If an accident should happen, call the police at once). Common phrases: 「万が一の時」「万が一のことを考えて」.

Mixed up with

「万が一」: used almost only for bad things and disasters.

「もしも」: a neutral 'if', good or bad: 「もしも宝くじが当たったら」 (If I won the lottery).

Not 「万が一宝くじが当たったら」 for good news.
