Knowing (someone); since
Knowing Tanaka, who's always late, he'll probably be late today too.
Explanation
「ことだから」 has 3 uses
「Person + の + ことだから」 means 'knowing him/her'. From the person's character and usual behavior, you guess they will act the same way this time. The ending is usually a guess: 「真面目な田中さんのことだから、明日も遅刻しないだろう」 (Knowing how serious Tanaka is, he won't be late tomorrow either).
Knowing God, He will surely help us.
Knowing that guy, he must be cheating people to make money.
After a clause describing the present situation, 「ことだから」 means 'since..., (let's...)', close to 「ことだし」. The second half is often a suggestion or decision: 「撮影が無事終わったことだから、打ち上げでもしましょう」 (Since the shoot went well, let's have a party).
Mom and Dad, since you're here for once, let's all watch a movie together for the first time in a while.
Since the shoot went well, let's have a wrap party!
3〜ということだから: since I hear that
「〜ということだから」 means 'since I hear / since they say...'. The first half is information you got from someone; the second half is your conclusion or request: 「基礎問題ということだから、簡単だろう」 (Since they say it's a basic question, it should be easy).
Since they said it was a basic question, it was easy, right?
Since it turns out he simply misunderstood, I'd like you to forgive him.
