N5
へ
To, Toward
私はフランスへ行く。
I will go to France.
Explanation
「へ」 is written 「へ」 but read 'e' as a particle. It shows the direction of movement, often with 「行く」, 「来る」, 「帰る」 and 「向かう」: 「学校へ行く」. It is also used for the addressee of a letter or card: 「田中さんへ」 (to Tanaka).
Mixed up with
「へ」 stresses direction, 「に」 stresses the place you arrive at; 「東京へ行く」 and 「東京に行く」 can mostly be swapped.
Only 「へ」: greetings and letter headings: 「大阪へようこそ」, 「母へ」.
Only 「に」: the place where something exists and specific times: 「部屋にいる」, 「3時に寝る」.
Before a noun you can say 「東京への切符」 (a ticket to Tokyo); 「に」 cannot do this, there is no 「東京にの切符」.
