N5
のなかで~がいちばん~
Out of ~, ~ is the best/most ~
食べ物の中で寿司が一番好き。
Out of all foods, I like sushi best.
Explanation
Among three or more things of the same kind, it says which is the most …: 「果物の中で、りんごが一番好きです」 (Of all fruit, I like apples best). 「〜の中で」 sets the range, 「が」 points to the one that comes out on top, and 「一番」 goes before the adjective or verb. To ask, use a question word: 「何が / 誰が / どこが / いつが 一番……ですか」.
Mixed up with
If the range is a whole place or group, 「で」 alone is fine: 「世界で一番」, 「クラスで一番」; for things of the same kind, 「〜の中で」 is usual: 「果物の中で」, 「スポーツの中で」.
The one that comes out on top takes 「が」, not 「は」: 「寿司が一番好きです」.
Choose the question word properly: 「誰」 for people, 「何」 for things, 「どこ」 for places, 「いつ」 for time.
