N5
たくさん
Many, A lot of, Plenty, Enough
この島には沢山の猫がいます。
There are a lot of cats on this island.
Explanation
「たくさん」 (沢山) means 'a lot'. It can modify a verb directly, with no particle: 「たくさん食べる」 (eat a lot), 「たくさん勉強した」 (studied a lot). Before a noun it needs 「の」: 「たくさんの人」 (many people), 「たくさんの本」 (many books).
Mixed up with
「多い」 cannot go directly before a noun: not 「多い人」 or 「多い本」. 「多い」 stays at the end of a sentence: 「人が多い」; or say 「多くの人」.
To modify a verb use 「たくさん」: 「たくさん食べた」, not 「多く食べた」.
Before a noun, 「たくさんの人」 and 「多くの人」 are both fine; 「多い人」 is not.
