Explanation

「AはBの一つだ」 says that A is one of the members of the larger group B.

「京都は日本の有名な観光地の一つです」 (Kyoto is one of Japan's famous tourist spots).

It is used for definitions, typical examples, and introducing sights, brands or cities. For a person, use 「一人」: 「～の一人だ」.

Mixed up with

For things, cities and ideas use 「の一つだ」. For people use 「の一人だ」: 「尊敬する学者の一人だ」. Not 「×学者の一つだ」.

B is normally a group of many, linked with 「の」: 「B＋の＋一つ」.
