N4
づらい
Hard to, Tough to, Painful to, Difficult to
歯が痛くて喋りづらいです。
My tooth hurts so it's tough to talk.
Explanation
「〜づらい」 comes from 「辛い(つらい, painful)」 and attaches to the ます-stem of a verb; the whole is an い-adjective. It means doing something feels unpleasant: physical pain, or worry, awkwardness or resistance in your mind.
「歯が痛くて喋りづらい」 (My tooth hurts, so talking is painful); 「相手が上司だから、本音を言いづらい」 (He's my boss, so it's hard to say what I really think).
Mixed up with
Three ways to say 'hard':
「にくい」: difficulty caused by the conditions or nature of the thing (the print is small, so 「読みにくい」).
「づらい」: subjectively unpleasant or resisted (asking to borrow money is truly 「頼みづらい」; with sore eyes a phone is 「見づらい」).
「がたい」 (N2): almost impossible by ability or reason: 「信じがたい」 (hard to believe), 「許しがたい」 (unforgivable).
Note: for the nature of a thing (not a person's effort or feeling), 「にくい」 is the usual choice: 「壊れにくい」 and 「乾きにくい」 sound more natural than 「壊れづらい」 or 「乾きづらい」.
