How to tell them apart

「として」 is role or status: 「代表として参加する」 (take part as a representative).

「にとって」 is the standpoint of a judgement, 'for...', followed by evaluations such as 「大切だ」 or 「難しい」.

「にしては」 is 'considering that..., yet it turns out different': 「プロにしては下手だ」 (Poor for a professional).

Before a noun say 「~としての+noun」 and do not drop 「の」.
