Explanation

「点」 means 'in terms of', pointing out the angle from which you look at or judge something: 「この車は燃費が良い点で、優れている」 (This car is excellent in that it is fuel efficient), 「その点については問題ありません」 (There is no problem on that point). It is often used when weighing the good and bad of two things.

Mixed up with

「～という点で」 follows a full sentence and gives the ground for the judgment.

「～の点において」 is a more formal written version: 'in terms of'.
