Cannot afford to, No way, Impossible to do

I was invited by my senpai, so there is no way that I can decline the offer.

Explanation

「Vわけにはいかない」 means 'I can't (very well) do...'. It is not that you are unable, but that social norms, human feeling, morals, law or a sense of duty make it wrong to do: 「いくら嫌いでも、上司の指示を無視するわけにはいかない」 (However much I dislike it, I can't ignore my boss's instructions). It follows the dictionary form.

Mixed up with

「わけにはいかない」 is 'can't, for moral or social reasons'; 「わけがない」 is 'impossible by logic'; 「わけではない」 is a partial denial ('it doesn't mean that...').

「Vる+わけにはいかない」 means you must not do it. 「Vない+わけにはいかない」 means you have to do it (duty): 「行かないわけにはいかない」 (I can't not go). Exams often put these two together, so check whether the verb is positive or negative.

Examples

Since we are short-handed tomorrow, I cannot afford to take a day off.

I want this jacket, but I've spent too much this month, so I can't let myself buy it.

I cannot afford to silently overlook that problem.
