Explanation

「Nと並んで」 means 'alongside N' or 'on a par with N'. The subject and N are equal in status, fame, value or strength, and share a reputation: 「富士山は白山、立山と並んで日本三名山と呼ばれる」 (Mt. Fuji, along with Hakusan and Tateyama, is called one of Japan's three famous mountains). The tone is formal, used in objective introductions to culture, geography and people.

Mixed up with

The particle is 「と」 (equal, of equal fame). 「に並んで」 means lined up side by side in space. For equal standing, exams always use 「と」.

「と並んで」 stresses equal fame or standing. 「とともに」 stresses doing something together, or changing along with something.
