N2
~ざる
To not ~, Un~
パーティーに招かれざる客が現れて、その場の空気が凍りついた。
An uninvited guest showed up at the party, and the room went cold.
Explanation
「〜ざる」 is the old form of 「ない」 and goes before a noun, like 「〜ない+noun」. In modern Japanese it survives only in fixed phrases, and sounds formal and literary: 「意図せざる結果」 (an unintended result), 「許されざる行為」 (an unforgivable act). 「する」 becomes 「せざる」.
Mixed up with
Common set phrases: 「持たざる者」 (the have-nots), 「知らざる世界」 (an unknown world), 「たゆまざる努力」 (tireless effort).
「見ざる・言わざる・聞かざる」 (see no, speak no, hear no evil) is the saying of the three monkeys.
Do not make new phrases with it: not 「行かざる人」.
