For the first time in, Haven't done for some time

I am definitely going to be sore tomorrow because I ran a 5K for the first time in a year.

Explanation

Follows a length of time (「3年、1か月、半年」, 「久し」) and means 'for the first time in ...'. A long gap lay between the last time and this time, often with a feeling of reunion: 「10年ぶりに再会した」 (We met again after ten years). Before a noun use 「ぶりの」; at the end of a sentence 「ぶりです」.

Mixed up with

「ぶりに」: how long it has been since the last time. (I met them for the first time in three years).

「おきに」: skipping a unit. 「1日おきに」 (every other day), 「1メートルおきに」 (every other metre).

「ごとに」: every single one counts.

Examples

I will bathe for the first time in 3 years.

Going to the dentist is something I haven't done in 2 years.
