Nothing but, None other than, Simply

Visiting me at such a late time is nothing but a nuisance.

Explanation

「にほかならない」 means 'nothing other than, precisely'. It points to the true nature or the only cause of something, in a firm tone used in essays, editorials and speeches. It is often used for reasons with 「〜からにほかならない」: 「今回の成功は、全員のチームワークの賜物にほかならない」 (This success is nothing but the result of everyone's teamwork), 「彼が厳しいのは、君に期待しているからにほかならない」 (He is strict precisely because he expects a lot of you).

Mixed up with

「にほかならない」: exactly this and nothing else; affirms its basic value.

「にすぎない」: 'merely, only'; it plays something down or limits it.

Examples

He went on that show purely for publicity.

This company has grown this far precisely because we met him.

The first priority is nothing other than human life.
