Describing a noun
旭が丘は静かな街です。
Asahigaoka is a quiet town.
A な-adjective needs 「な」 after its stem when it modifies a noun: 「静かな夜」 (a quiet night), 「元気な子供」 (a lively child).
Some words that look like い-adjectives are really な-adjectives: 「きれい」, 「嫌い」, 「有名」. Say 「きれいな人」, 「嫌いな食べ物」.
Do not leave out 「な」 (「静か町」), and do not use 「の」 (「静かの町」).
たなかさんは親切な人だ。
Tanaka-san is a kind person.
これは便利なツールです。
This is a convenient tool.
暇な一日。
A free day.
